Introduction/Overview

Ring sizing is a unique measurement that varies for each person and depends on many different factors. If you're not used to wearing rings, you may discover your perfect fit over time as you wear a ring consistently throughout the day, week, and year.

Our team aims to provide you with all the information you need about ring sizing. Here are some useful tips we've gathered from sizing countless fingers over the years!

Important Note: Ring sizing is not the same everywhere, and it can differ between makers and stores. So, if you get sized at different places, your ring size might be more of an approximate measurement. Not familiar with U.S. sizing? See this conversion chart to find your size.

Finger Shapes

Fingers come in different shapes, sizes, and lengths, making each person's hands unique. Certain finger shapes can handle a wider range of ring sizes, but others may have limitations to ensure the ring stays securely in place and doesn't slip off accidentally. It's essential to consider these factors to avoid any risk of losing your ring.

Cone Shape

Cone Shape

Wider base of finger and slimmer knuckle Pinky and pointer fingers especially tend to have shapes that can make rings prone to slipping off. For a secure fit, we usually recommend choosing a snug size.

Straight Shape

Straight Shape

From base of finger to knuckle the finger is about the same, with the knuckle being just a little bigger.

Vase Shape

Vase Shape

Bigger knuckle where the finger tapers downward to a slimmer base (much like a vase would) On this finger, you'll have the most flexibility to wear various sizes. However, keep in mind that if you plan to wear wider rings or stack multiple rings together, you might want to choose a slightly larger size for added comfort.

Right/Left Hand:

Alas, we are asymmetrical! Our hands are usually a quarter to a half size different from one another (often with our dominant hand being slightly larger), so be very careful to size for the correct finger and hand.

The width and thickness of a ring can change the feeling of it when worn. The wider a ring is, the tighter the size will feel.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

Hands can rapidly change during pregnancy, including within the first trimester. If you're pregnant and interested in a non-resizable ring, it's advisable to wait until after your baby arrives to ensure the right fit over time.

Personal Comfort

Personal Comfort

Some people love a snug fit, while others prefer a loose one. Find what you like best, and remember that it's’ your piece to wear and your own comfort is the most important!

Age

Age

While we can’t save time in a bottle, we can help the fit of your ring as your hands age through time. Hands can often thicken as we age and over the lifetime of your ring, you may find that you need a size adjustment. This is very common and we would welcome you to reach out to our team if you ever need a fit alteration.

First Time Wearing A Ring?

If you've never worn a ring before, it might feel a bit uncomfortable at first and take some getting used to. It's common for first-time wearers to choose a size that's too large because they aren't familiar with the sensation. Don't worry; many people end up needing a resizing later on as they figure out the best fit for themselves. If you're unsure about your size, we suggest trying out different ring sizers to get used to wearing a ring throughout your day. It will help you acclimate to the sensation and find the perfect fit.

Sizing from Home:

If you are unable to visit us in person, we have a few tips on sizing yourself from home. It is always important to note that sizing ranges across the industry and is not universally standardized. As this is the case, here are the steps we recommend:

Step 1: Ordering Sizers

Metal Ring Sizers
No Zip Tie

When ordering sizers, we always recommend selecting metal sizing sets over plastic or rubber zip tie options. Rubber and plastic options can shift or break in transit and may result in an incorrect measurement. In addition, as many of our styles are more slim, the wider zip tie options will likely result in an inaccurate sizing.

Select a sizing set that is closer in shape and width to the piece you are interested in ordering. For example, if you are ordering a 1.5mm band, do not order 5mm square metal sizers as these will likely result in an incorrect sizing.

For a piece that is meant to last a lifetime, we recommend taking the time to find the best sizing set for you!

Step 2: Try Them Out

Once your sizers arrive, try them on and narrow down your favorite fits to around 1-3 options. After having narrowed down your favorites, wear these incrementally throughout the day. Wash your hands, use them around the house or at work, and doing regular tasks. Trying these over a few days can help you to find which size feels best while also learning how your hands change throughout the day.

Many sizing sets use half-size increments, so you may find that one size feels too tight while the other feels too loose. Our team works with quarter sizes, and if the two sizes you like best don't feel quite right, we can always create the in-between quarter sizes for a more precise fit.

Extra Tips:

One of the major concerns we often hear is the fear of a ring getting stuck. This is particularly important for first-time ring wearers, so it's advisable to start with a slightly larger size and gradually go down if needed.

The most crucial thing is to ensure the ring can comfortably go over your knuckle. If you find yourself having to force the band over your knuckle, and it becomes painful, stop immediately. It's essential not to risk hurting yourself. A well-fitting ring should have a bit of resistance when putting it on or taking it off, and it should not slip off your finger too easily.

For safely removing a ring, a helpful technique is to twist it off, rather than pulling on it.

Step 3: Send Them In

Once you've identified your preferred fits, kindly get in touch with our team, and we'll provide you with instructions for sending them to us.

As the sizing may vary across the industry, the size you like best might not directly correspond to our ring mandrel (ring sizing tool). For example, a size 7 in a metal sizer could measure as 7.25 or 6.75 on our mandrel. By sending in the sizers, we can accurately determine the best fit for you.

Upon receiving the sizers, one of our team members will promptly follow up with you to confirm the measurements. They will also be more than happy to address any additional questions you may have to help you finalize your preferred fit.
